Your appearance will say a lot about you. If you are speaking as a professional or expert in your field then you need to dress like one. People will pass judgments and comment on what you are wearing if it is inappropriate.
Try to aim for a conformable and neutral look that represents who you are yet remains inside the boundaries of what is considered professional.
Tips:
1. Dress appropriately for your position.
2. Wear comfortable clothing that is not too restrictive.
3. Wear clothes that will not distract from the message you are trying to get across.
4. Be prepared to have a small microphone pinned to your clothing. This is often more of an issue for women to wear tops or dresses that are lower cut.
5. Ask the TV producer what colours they recommend you wear. They will guide you on what colours come across best on TV and which ones don't. White is generally not recommended.
6. Most interviews will only involve your top half being showed. However, be prepared for a full body shot; therefore wear appropriate shoes and socks.
7. Be aware of the material of your clothing. If you are more prone to sweat be sure to wear clothing that won't show up your sweat stains.
8. Wool is not a good material to wear under the bright hot lights.
9. If you wear accessories, watch, jewellery etc. be sure that they compliment your image and not distract the viewer.
10. It is fine to wear glasses if you need them. Just ask the producer how your glasses will reflect or respond under certain lights. For example; photosensitive eyeglasses turn dark under the lights and may portray a “darker” image.
