How Authors Can Overcome Their Fear of Twitter and Master this Powerful Author Promotional Tool!

Twitter has become one of those sites that you just cannot ignore. I did for many years, but finally succumbed to using Twitter within the past two years and quickly learned just how powerful this site can be.

    Are You an Author Who:

    1. Has a Twitter account but does not know where to start?

    2. Is afraid of making posts?

    3. Does not know how to use all of the tools and resources available to you?

    4. Has a Twitter account, but cannot seem to attract followers?

    How Can Twitter Help Authors?

    1. Twitter Can Be a Great Tool for:

    2. Pre-publication marketing campaigns

    3. Announcing the release of your new eBook

    4. Author promotion

    5. Brand building and networking.....just to name a few.

Twitter can be a great place to connect to people who are interested in your work, and who in turn will send your message out into their own networks of followers.

Social media has been used to launch thousands of eBooks that has helped them to go “viral.” But can posting “tweets” of less than 140 characters really help? You bet, but only if you post relevant and useful tweets that reach your direct target market.

    Where to Start:

    1. Join Twitter!

If you have been delaying joining Twitter then go ahead and join right now, it will only take a few minutes.

    2. Carefully Select Your Username

A key word rich username is extremely important. For example, I was able to register the username “eBook Authors' - http://twitter.com/ebookauthors for our company (eBooks International) which has been a big advantage in reaching our target market. Try to choose a username that is short and to the point.

    3. It's About Give and Take

In order to be successful on Twitter you need to give as well as take. You cannot just post messages and expect your following to grow at a fast rate. Follow others and re-tweet.

    4. Your Followers Must Trust You

If you are building your name as an expert in your field, then you must be sure that every post if accurate and factual.

    5. Find The Leaders

Seek out the “leaders” or “influential” people from your market niche who post on Twitter. Leverage the power of those leaders who already have well established followers. By joining these people, you will expose your account to others within your target market.

    6. Follow The Leaders

This is always a good place to start. Read their “tweets” and see who is following them. You can then follow the usernames that are directly related to your niche.

    7. Learn From the Leaders

There is a reason why these people have such a big following. Learn from what they tweet and how they write their tweets. Learn how they use Twitter to indirectly market and promote their own name within their niche.

    8. Value Every Tweet!

Some people recommend that you tweet ten times a day. That is fine; just make sure that every tweet stays on message and has value. I find that people who tweet too much often have little value to what they say. Tweet tips, advice and information that people can use and that will keep them coming back to you.

    9. Utilise Lists

Lists are a great way to find people to follow and in return they will follow you. Search for lists within your niche or start your own.

    10. Build Your Brand

All authors require an author platform and need to take a personal interest in self-branding. Become the expert for your niche field and people will seek you out to buy your eBooks and information products.

    Summary

Twitter is an amazing tool to connect with people. Authors should strongly consider joining this revolution. How long it will last is something we just don't know yet. However, while it has such power you should be along for the ride.
